Governor DeSantis Signs Legislation Affecting the Homeowner's Insurance Market in Florida
|
Today in Sarasota, Governor Ron DeSantis hosted a discussion about the property insurance market.
|
State officials along with representatives from the banking, real estate, construction and mitigation industries joined DeSantis to discuss the impacts, issues, and reforms that are important to each constituent moving forward. During this event, Governor DeSantis signed Senate Bill 76, which will become effective July 1, 2021. Property insurance reform is a high priority to the well being of Florida's property insurance market for homeowners. Professionals in the insurance industry have worked hard to pass meaningful legislation related to our insurance industry.
Industry representatives are now engaging the difficulties experienced by the Florida homeowner's insurance market. This new legislation makes changes to the "one-way attorney fee" statute, prohibits solicitation and inducements by contractors and public adjusters, and reduces Florida's lengthy claims filing timeline. We are not at the finish line, but today we applaud this legislation as a significant step to bring stability to Florida's property insurance market, specifically for homeowner insurance.

Thank you to everyone involved in supporting and bringing today's success to the desk of Governor DeSantis.
